Abzyme Technology
An abzyme is an antibody that catalyzes the breakdown of proteins. A single abzyme molecule destroys thousands of target molecules, for example, by recognizing a small protein patch that CIF scientists have identified as the Achilles Heel of HIV particles. Therefore, CIF sees abzymes as the path to efficient and low-cost solutions for difficult-to-treat medical problems like HIV infection and Alzheimer’s disease. Antibodies that bind the target and are devoid of catalytic activity are currently a multi-billion dollar class of medicines, costing individual patients up to $ 70,000/year. If the power of abzymes is harnessed, they can be utilized for more cost-effective therapy. The innovative procedure of covalent vaccination is the means to vigorously stimulate the body’s own immune system to produce abzymes to prevent and treat infections in which only traditional vaccines stimulate feeble immunity. Dr. Sudhir Paul
Scientific principles underlying CIF’s mission have been discovered by Dr. Sudhir Paul and his research team at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and for the last 12 years, at the University of Texas Houston Medical School. Dr. Paul has proved that abzymes are inherently more potent in attaining inactivation of various targets than traditional antibodies with reversible binding activity. Their work on basic science of antibodies and abzymes, HIV, hepatitis C virus infection, Alzheimer’s disease and hemophilia has been covered in over 150 scientific publications. Dr. Paul has been a professor and researcher for over 26 years, and the recipient of numerous federal grants and awards during his distinguished career, much of which has been devoted to developing abzyme technology. 2009 World AIDS Day Squads Challenge
Covalent Immunology Foundation (CIF), American Apparel, and AriZona Beverages announce an innovative nationwide fundraising drive spearheaded by dozens of university student groups acting as World AIDS Day (W.A.D.) Squads. On World AIDS Day, December 1, 2009, the student groups will raise money in support of FDA Phase I human trials of the breakthrough HIV vaccine candidate created by Dr. Sudhir Paul. As a show of support and to motivate the students, AriZona has pledged a year’s supply of any of its products to the group that raises the most money. Similarly, American Apparel has pledged $2,000 in gift certificates to the winning team.

Covalent Immunology Foundation (CIF) has been formed to support research and education in preventing and treating diseases that have remained intractable to traditional medicines.
The mission
of CIF is to help harness the revolutionary power of abzyme and covalent vaccination technologies for developing innovative and low-cost medicines that are accessible regardless of socioeconomic status.

CIF is a registered 501 c 3 charity foundation, Federal Tax ID 26-4735539.
